Diego Casal[1] Hernández[2] is the second male protagonist in the second and third season of the Disney Channel Latin America's original show, Violetta. He's the typical 'bad boy' of the school who came from Madrid to Buenos Aires to look for his father, and was willing to go to great lengths to find him.
He is also the co-founder of Art Rebel and was portrayed by Diego Domínguez.
Early Life[]
Diego was born to Carla Hernández in Madrid, Spain, in September of either 1993 or 1994, six months after his unknowing father, Gregorio Casal, left Madrid in February. About 20 years later, in 2013, Diego moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to continue his search for his father, as his search in his homeland had been unsuccesful.
Character History[]
Season 2[]
Part 1[]
When Diego arrives in Buenos Aires, he's a very arrogant and over-confident guy with a "bad boy" attitude. Doing everything he can to win over Violetta, and even goes as far as harassing her. However, he regets this later and seems to develop a soft side, which Violetta eventually falls for. But this character progression does not seem sincere once it's revealed he has been planning something with Ludmila all along to find his father.
Part 2[]
Unbeknownst to Violetta, Diego and herself start their relationship based on a lie. However, Diego actually falls in love with Violetta and struggles with keeping this secret from her. He tries to tell her the truth at times, but gets scared of losing her. When Ludmila finds out, she tries to get Diego to "play the jealous boyfriend", but he refuses. Later, during the trip to Spain for the YouMix awards, Diego convinces Ludmila that he is going to break Violetta's heart right there, but only tells her this so she stops harassing him about it. However, unbeknownst to him he is being filmed by León after Francesca found out about his call with Ludmila earlier. This leads to their break-up, which leaves both Violetta and Diego heartbroken because Diego has fallen in love with her for real. But Violetta cannot continue a relationship based on a lie, no matter how remorseful Diego is. When they return to Buenos Aires, Violetta does everything she can to avoid Diego, until Diego finds out who his dad is. This is when Diego learns that his father moved to Buenos Aires twenty years ago, never knowing he had a son, until now. Despite struggling at first, Diego eventually accepts him.
Season 3[]
Part 1[]
Nearing the end of the tour, everyone is on good terms with Diego. When he sees his best friend's girlfriend hurting, he tries to help them and their relationship. Diego leaves the studio to start up a different studio with his father. Not long after, he leaves the boys band too. Knowing Marco is moving away, Diego develops feelings for Francesca. When his godsister Érica is in town, Francesca starts acting weird, and Diego realizes that she likes him too. When he confesses his feelings, she doesn't want any of it, but eventually confesses her feelings too and they start dating in secret.
Part 2[]
With the studio struggling, Gregorio decides to put Art Rebel on hold and help out, much to Diego's dismay. He eventually accepts this and helps his father. When his girlfriend gets dragged into disguising as someone else to help out her best friend, Diego struggles knowing she's hiding things from him but when he finds out about them, he helps them out. When Andrés starts developing feelings for his girlfriend's alter ego, he gets jealous, and they add to the lies by 'pretending' to date. Not long after, Francesca breaks up with him because of her anxiety.
Part 3[]
After the show fails to gather new sponsors, Diego and his father start arguing a lot. Diego and Francesca get back together, but are quickly discovered by his ex and her best friend, Violetta.
